Heartfelt entrepreneurial ventures have exploded on the scene, with some 55,000 U.S. adults switching to self-employment in each month of 2015 alone. What drives the vast majority of these adventurous Souls, according to the 2016 Kaufmann Startup Index, is opportunity – the opportunity to create something better than a job. Entrepreneurs are increasingly looking for a life, one in which work is also defined as passion.
Diving into passion requires a whole new set of principles that sometimes run counter to those that define the 9-5 work-a-day world. As more and more of us follow the pull of bigger purpose over bigger paychecks, we’ve started to develop an ‘inner’standing about what exactly success looks like. Rather than looking to outside material success, we’re being offered the chance to look inside and be guided by faith.
But faith often has us jumping headfirst into a pool and having to figure out how to fill it with water mid-leap. Sometimes we get it right, and sometimes we end up bruised and battered – but not broken. Because as every undaunted entrepreneur knows, success is…
Being Tough Enough to Keep Doing This
That’s right. If you’re waking up every day and adding a little to the end goal despite having to juggle several roles, you’re thriving. If you’re handling naysayers who encourage you to focus on less risky ventures, you’ve got this. And if you’re answering to nobody and therefore having to answer to everything that needs done, you’ve won.
Being emotionally centered, and therefore tough enough to follow our passions is a form of practical, experiential success. It not only allows us to work diligently toward our goals, but it has the added bonus of increasing our strength exponentially over time. In other words, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!
Being Able to Access the Magic of Intuition
The glorious bonus that comes with faith is that our intuition becomes much stronger and more clearly defined. We have to rely on our wits a lot more, and this requires moving beyond the five senses. When there are no clear-cut answers, but only an empty space that we get to fill with our creations, we learn to see with an inner vision that magnifies life and brings with it a deep understanding of the next steps to take along our path.
Intuition is kind of like having that wise older sibling along with you on your childhood adventures: it provides a sure sense of direction and a of Divine grace that helps guide us into actions and opportunities that align with our goals.
Being Able to Move Beyond Predefined Labels
Another way of saying this is that we step outside of the box. As entrepreneurs we’re redefining what ‘work’ is by insisting that it also include the call of our Higher Selves. This brings with it some unique challenges, including having to dodge shrapnel from the well-intentioned people around us who keep insisting that we follow the safer, but less-fulfilling, path of least resistance.
Yet the more times we stay on the path of heart-centered purpose, the less likely we are to buy into the pressure to conform. And this allows us to live freer lives because it leads into…
Being Equipped with a Strong Sense of Self
Authenticity is a challenge to maintain in a world that continues to insist that we play the game of sacrificing our dreams. Yet because we’re not selling out on those dreams, we have strengthened our resolve to stay true to ourselves.
This allows us to attract more of the people and situations that propel our goals forward and also helps us to live a more deeply satisfying life. No matter what is happening on the outside, we know that we have the Rock of our purpose to keep us strong and centered.
