Originally written to my mother for her 65th birthday, and updated for the occasion. Since the words will forever ring true, I wanted to shout them to the world because I am beyond honored to have shared my entire life thus far as her daughter.
The featured picture is of my mother, with her mother–also, my first picture with the two of them, two months before I was born.
Happy 70th birthday to the best mommie in the world. Because you are you, I fly higher, walk taller, sing proudly, and find reason to smile when my heart is hurting. You have given me a shoulder to cry on, a hand to hold, a heart to cherish, and a mind filled with creativity and possibility.
My Mom in 5th Grade.
You are my best friend and I thank you for giving me life. You take care of many and I have witnessed many put their hearts in your care–for this I am honored to be your daughter.
You have loved me at my most unlovable times, and have supported me when others had given up or abandoned me. You were there to see your grandchild come into the world, to take me to Ohio State, to help me take care of Our Nannie/Your amazing Mom during her last years, to cheer my accomplishments, and dust me off when I fell.
Thank you for your smiles, sleepless nights, hugs and kisses.
Your love has kept me here this long–sometimes it was the only thing that kept me going over the years. Mom, I love you more than my words can say..but as long as I live, I will always try to tell you.
