Random Sagittarian Bluntness: Our First Schmuck Yeah! Award Goes To…

Today we give a shout out to Vlada, the artist responsible for fulfilling Kirstie and my childhood dreams of being cartooned!

Having grown up during the golden age of cereal and cartoons, I am a tough sell when it comes to art. Not that I am an art snob–far from it. When I have an idea in my mind on how I want something to be, and nothing but adjectives and feelings to describe it, I need a creative person who navigates the imagination, like say, The Artful Dodger.

I need someone who can take the blank page and pour my dream upon it. Vlada accomplished that leap with skill, compassion and an enthusiasm that left me astounded. Working from only a picture and the ideas from my scattered brain, he was able to take all of it and create something colorful and true to life. Even though we operated on different continents and in different time zones, what was built through messages and drawings turned into more than I could’ve hoped for.

I cannot say enough good things about working with Vlada. When you have an idea and wish for it to be translated into art, you hope that the person you entrust with the task will treat the development of it with the respect it deserves. He approached my project with care and possessed an excitement over the finished designs that mirrored my own.

Vlada is a talented artist that brought our cartoon dreams into reality and is most certainly someone I am glad to know, and feature on our blog.

Stay tuned to Enlightenment for Schmucks, for upcoming comics that will be putting more of Vlada’s work in our spotlight–illustrating the kinds of moments that helped create the premise behind the blog and title.

In conclusion, we both thank Vlada for doing such an amazing job for us, and this is why he gets our first Schmuck Yeah! Award.

One, because he deserves it, and most importantly, he is the one who brought it to life.  THANK YOU VLADA! We are grateful for your talent and you!

  1. Thank you Vlada for shocking me with your spot-on rendition of what I envisioned! And Trina, much gratitude for putting up with my pickiness with grace and a great sense of humor:-)-
