Our lives are like paper boats—
With each decision and chapter
We balance on the water’s edge
Watercraft in hand to launch.
Gently we place our dreams inside
And hope for the best.
Often growing frustrated with our boat
Bobbing upon still water.
In this frustration, we long to make it go
To trouble the waters
To stir things up to our liking
To equate patience with laziness.
Or we fill the water with identical boats
As if many are better than one—
The one that holds the most powerful wish
The first wish.
